Longfield Academy Statement on Bullying and Equal Learning Opportunities
We, the pupils of Longfield Academy, believe that we should be treated fairly by teachers and pupils. We also expect for everyone equal learning opportunities. By fairness and equal learning opportunities, we mean:
- Feeling safe, welcome and not a victim of bullying. By bullying we mean any deliberate action to make a person feel bad about themselves. This includes the use of hurtful words and physical abuse.
- Having respect for each other.
- Everyone has, as far as possible, the chance to enjoy the many and varied educational experiences on offer at Longfield Academy.
- Celebrating the fact that the school has many races and backgrounds.
- Not making fun of peoples differences.
- Looking out for others and doing something about it if we see anyone being put down.
- Insisting that strict, but appropriate action is taken by the school.
Equal learning opportunities means that no pupil at Longfield Academy should be made to feel left out. Everyone is responsible for the well being of others. We expect the school to take action to protect us. There is no place for bullying here!
These are all forms of bullying:
- Name calling about people look
- Cruel comments about how rich / poor someone is
- Being rude about how intelligent someone is
- Expressing negative views about another person’s race/culture
- Unpleasant comments about people’s disabilities
- Persistent teasing
- Threatening
- Pushing around.
They are the use of power to cause suffering.
Sometimes bullies need help too. There places to talk about their problems should they need it.
There can be no place for this in this school. Action is always taken against the bully. Bullies need help.
Bullying is cowardly. The bully carefully picks on someone who is smaller or unlikely to defend themselves. Bullies in a group find safety in numbers.
There is no such thing as a brave bully.
The really brave person is the one who TELLS, rather than keep silent.
By telling, you are protecting others who may be attacked by the bully. And lets face it; anyone who gets their kicks from bullying needs help! The school does not allow any type of bullying and seeks the help of students, staff and parents in defeating it. It does not matter where it happens. In the playground, in the corridor, on the bus - if it’s our kids, it’s our business. The victims parents are told what has been happening and what is been done about it.
The school gives every possible support and protection to those who tell on the bully.
Having equal learning opportunities mean that no pupil at Longfield Academy should be made to feel unhappy or left out. Each one of us is responsible for making sure that others are not made unhappy or left out. We expect the school to take action to help us to do this. |
