Longfield Academy Parents Council

The Longfield Academy Parent Council is a consultative forum that represents views of parents and carers whose children are currently on role at the Academy. The aim of the council is to contribute towards the Academy securing the best learning opportunities for all students.

Terms of Reference

• To work in partnership with the Academy to create a welcoming school that is inclusive for all parents and carers.
• To work with staff, governors, sponsors and other stakeholders to implement the vision of the Academy.
• Engage in a wide range of initiatives that promote the progress of the Academy and students within it.
• To provide parental representation on the Leigh Academies Trust Governing Body and associated Longfield Development Group.
• To promote the work of the Parent Council amongst all parents and carers associated with the Academy, and to achieve the widest possible levels of participation amongst parents and carers in the work of the council.

Officers

The Chair and Secretary are elected annually at the first meeting of the Parent Council of each academic year. Parental views are represented by the Parent Council to the Trust through the following:

• A Trust Parental Governor is elected via the Parent Council in accordance with the governance procedures of the Trust, as well as being a member of the Longfield Development Group.
• The Chair of the Parent Council is automatically a member of the Longfield Development Group

Meetings of the Council

There will be one meeting each half term and the dates will be published at the start of the academic year. The Chair may call additional meetings during a year should an important issue arise. All parents/carers are eligible to attend council meetings and will be informed of meetings and other events via the Academy website and newsletter. All meetings are held at the Academy, and one or more members of the Academy Leadership Team will attend each meeting to promote an effective dialogue. All minutes of the Parents Council will be posted regularly on the Academy website. The Chair of the Parent Council will provide a written report detailing the work of the council for each of the tri-annual meetings of the full board of the governing body.
